No really. Don't.
I don't know what it is that gives people the sudden urge to reach out and touch a pregnant woman's baby bump. I personally feel very uncomfortable with it and refrain from doing it to others. Unless its my immediate family, I really don't like it. I think because I am very spiritual person and I believe that energies can be carried through to others just by a simple touch. Call me crazy but thats just me and in no way am I saying everyone who touches my bump carries some type of funk spirit but you just never know and I'd rather just protect my child in the best way I know how.
(Disclaimer: Not my bump)
Sometimes it happens all too quick and before you can cross your arm and defend yourself from all the hands, it happened already. If however you do catch a hand about to go in for action, cross your hands as a prohibited gesture or do a cheeky one a pay them back with the same gesture by touching their belly, lol. (Not sure how well that would go down in my culture though).
I mean for me, its just a preference, and if you, like me feel me feel the same, speak up about it. Be polite but be firm and just express that you don't like your stomach area touched. Pregnancy is a very personal thing to women and your feelings towards how you decide to carry your bump and eventually raise your child are yours.
Mums and mums to be, have you experienced this same pet peeve or do you not mind? I would love to read your thoughts in the comment section below so please share!
